Jacqueline holds a Master’s degree in Human Learning and Performance from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Before her PhD position, she worked as a research assistant on using sensor technology to understand human physiological responses and perception of audience engagement. She has previously taught in primary and secondary schools as a trained teacher.

Her PhD research topic focuses on the relationship between student characteristics, student engagement, and achievement in open online higher education such as Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs). Her research aims to integrate the fields of educational psychology and technology to enhance the success rate of online learners. She has conducted experimental studies to investigate the effect of self-regulated learning prompts and goal setting activities in online learning environments. As a member of the Centre of Education and Learning, she collaborates with researchers from several universities and different disciplines.
