In May two new MOOCs have been launched by the Erasmus University Rotterdam: Sustainable Finance and Earth Economics.

  1.  Sustainable Finance

Curious how you can make sustainability happen in the financial sector? How you can develop business models with sustainability in mind? How should the risk and insurance industry adapt to climate problems?

This MOOC is primarily meant for Rotterdam School of Management students following a Master in Finance & Investments and Global Business & Sustainability. During eight weeks, the following modules will be provided:

  • The sustainability challenge
  • Dealing with the sustainability challenges
  • The purpose of companies
  • Sustainable business models
  • Sustainable asset management
  • Sustainable banking
  • Climate risk and insurance
  • Steering the transition

The MOOC is also available on Coursera for anyone that is interested in sustainability and the financial sector. Keep an eye on https://www.eur.nl/en/education/moocs for the latest updates.

  1. Earth Economics

Do you want to know more about global policy? Have you always wondered what sustainability and economy have in common? After this MOOC, you can call yourself a true Earth-Economist!

Earth Economics offers a completely new angle to policy analysis by its focus on the truly global level and its empirical orientation on very recent data. Sustainability (environmental and related to the UN's SDGs), equality and heterodox (that is: non mainstream) views on the economy are important for an Earth Economist.

In this MOOC “Earth Economist” Peter van Bergeijk from the Institute of Social Studies offers a completely new angle to policy analysis by focussing on the truly global level and very recent empirical data. Taking stock of emerging planet data and analyzing policies during and following the Global Crisis, Earth Economics provides both a topical introduction into basic economic tools and concepts as well as insights in highly relevant problems and recent developments in planet production, growth and governance. An important issue is the provision of global public goods. Earth Economics highlights the importance of the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, the World Health Organization and the World Trade Organization.

Sustainability (environmental and related to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals), equality and heterodox (that is: non mainstream) views on the economy are important for an Earth-Economist. The MOOC pays a lot of attention to pressing problems in world governance including SDGs (income inequality, sustainability, etc.) and we have included in each weekly session a section “how to apply what you have learned to the COVID-19 crisis“.
