Title: Learning beyond the classroom
The ubiquity of technology in people's everyday lives creates new opportunities for learning that exceed the narrow boundaries of a school's classroom. Learning can now happen whenever and wherever we are, whether on the sofa at home, on the bus during a commute, or while walking the dog. However, the flexibility offered by mobile technology also creates challenges, such as keeping up with repetition schedules or coping with interruptions in everyday environments. In this talk, I will present insights from an experience sampling study to better understand the use of learning applications in everyday situations. In addition, I will discuss the prevalence and impact of interruptions during mobile learning and present lessons learned from prototypical testing of mitigation strategies.
